Jen Lowy - Secretary Of Sustainable Reef and Industry Advocate

Jen Lowy is a former retailer and current industry advocate serving as the Secretary for Sustainable Reef. After running Colchester Pet Shop, Jen experienced the immense financial and logistical hurdles of the independent pet trade while trying to stay sustainable and true to her personal mission. She now combines those "lessons learned" with her passion for conservation to help others build more resilient, eco-conscious businesses. When not advocating for the reef community, she runs the handmade jewelry business Crafting For-The-Win with her homeschooled daughter, or volunteering for other nonprofits!

At Aquaporium, Jen is providing information on how to build a sustainable and legal Local Fish Store (LFS). Moving past the "sales pitch" of shop ownership, she provides a reality-based roadmap for operating ethically and legally in a challenging market. Key topics include:

  • Sustainability as a Business Model: How prioritizing aquacultured livestock and ethical sourcing isn't just good for the ocean—it can help you connect more with your customer base
  • Legal & Regulatory Mastery: A straightforward guide to navigating CITES, wildlife permits, and the essential paperwork required to stay compliant.
  • Community-Led Growth: Strategies for building a loyal customer base through education and shared environmental values.
