1:15pm - "Neptune Systems Trident & Dosing"
Tom has been in the hobby for 18 years now, and came across his job at Neptune Systems about two and half years ago, after he had already been installing Apex systems as his primary job at a retail and service company in NYC. He believes that "there are a lot of different approaches to taking care of your aquarium, and everyone has their own little wrinkles in what works for them. No two tanks are the same!" Tom is a representative for Neptune Systems because he believes in "Less Hassle, More Success"!
2:15pm - "Copepod Chaos - And Other Parasites of Coral"
Dr. Ashley Emanuele earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. She received her B.S. in Marine Biology from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, and has conducted research with octopuses, cuttlefish, and sea turtles. Dr. Emanuele became North Carolina’s first Certified Aquatic Veterinarian in 2017, a distinction awarded by the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association. As there are only 70 CertAqV doctors in the world, we were honored to have one speak at ReefSMART 2019!
3:15pm - "Reef Conservation and You - Making a Difference"
The Ocean's Reefs Project is a non profit coral bank whose focus is on preserving coral species while partnering with like minded people to promote conservation education. James Osbon has been working in charity organizations for the last 18 years and has been with The Ocean's Reefs Project since its inception. James has a deep love for our reefs, and enjoys sharing his passion with others. James believes that if we all do our parts then we can collectively make a meaningful difference in the health and well being of our Oceans. Attend his talk at ReefSMART this year to find out how!
4:15pm - “Everything You Know About Jellyfish Is Wrong”
Travis Brandwood is a 23 year old who has been keeping jellyfish for over eight years - which by our math, means he had his first jellyfish before he had his first drivers license! In that time, he has worked with 48 species of jellyfish from all different categories, including the famous Box Jellies. Travis believes passionately that jellyfish in aquariums get a bad reputation. Knowing that so much of the information on their care is old or false, he's made it his goal to tear down the myths and reveal just how simple and rewarding jellyfish aquariums can be. He currently breed nine species of jellies, in his quest to provide the hobby with high quality, captive bred, sustainable jellyfish. We are extremely excited to have him as a speaker this year!
