The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always up to something new and exciting.
Founded in 2002 by a group of five coral aquaculturists, Sustainable Reef soon evolved to include expositions for the reef industry. It began its first venture with ReefSMART in 2009, and the TRF Swaps that are now held tri-annually. In 2023 we are excited to add The Aquatic Expo in Charlotte, NC's first large scale two day expo. In our quest to educate, we have worked with Wake County Libraries presenting classes to children. We have also worked with NC State University to demonstrate techniques on aquaculturing corals, as well as putting on fragging demos at events.
Our current objective is to offer a connection between aquaculturists, breeders and home reefers for pest free corals and healthy fish. We believe it is possible to have a beautiful reef aquarium while having low or zero impact on wild reefs. We can help you do it at our events focused on aquaculture, both with our speakers and exhibitors.
For the past eleven years, we have focused on growing aquaculture based events and providing a connection between aquaculturists, along with educating the general public. Within the next few years, we will be ready to start on the final phase of our mission, and begin accepting applications for grants. Our first focus will be on the breeding of marine fish and mobile invertebrates, as we believe they are most in need of the funding. We are very excited about this development, and can't wait to get started!
Every level of aquarist has different ways to help the reef hobby progress. Now more than ever, it is important to do so with so many places banned from export. Within the next ten years, we may see all corals banned, and possibly fish and mobile invertebrates as well. Besides attending our expo, the links below are a good starting point. To assist in getting us to the point where we can start accepting grant applications even sooner, click the donate now button and choose your amount. We are grateful for any donation, no matter how small! One drop at a time still will fill a bucket, we all know!
